Discussion:
[Aspell-user] en_NZ locale causes no dictionaries to work - how to work around it?

I'd like to get Aspell to work in my Emacs, because spellchecking is
awesome and useful. However, I've never gotten Aspell to work because
of my locale (en_NZ) not having a dictionary. How could I work around
this? I don't mind using a (for example) en_GB dictionary if that's
what it takes, but how would I set this up?

Dear Koz,
In you dictionary location you could find text file
en_GB.multi

Copy it to the file named en_NZ.multi in the same directory.

It may make the trick.

If not, copy all other files with names starting from en_GB-* to en_NZ*

They are mostly text configuration files, so it's easy to understand
what they are doing.

Kind regards,
Robert

Hi Robert,

Thank you for that - I will try it. Will I have to repeat this step
every time I update aspell, or will once be enough?

Where would I find the dictionaries? I am on Parabola GNU/Linux-libre,
and 'aspell dump dicts' yields me nothing. Aspell was installed as a
dependency for another package, so I never configured it to do anything.

It is most likely in "/usr/lib/aspell". To command:

aspell dump config dict-dir
aspell dump config data-dir

Will let you know where Aspell expects to find the dictionary and/or
data files.

For a full dump of the config use "aspell dump config".
